Protein Snickers Apple Donuts
What are these apple donuts made of?
Peanut butter - Provides healthy fats and makes this recipe nutty and gives Snickers-like taste.
Protein powder – Peanut Butter Cake was used for this recipe to replicate a salty and sweet peanut butter taste.
Almond milk - A light tasting milk to combine with powder to create a smooth spread.
Dark chocolate chips - Can sub with milk chocolate, semi-sweet, and even white chocolate to get the same sweet touch!
Peanuts - The salty topping to give this recipe a crunchy, Snickers tasting delight.
Tips for creating these apple donuts
Any kind of apple can be used for this recipe. I recommend Fuji or Honey Crisp for a nice crisp apple.
Slowly add in almond milk to create a peanut butter-like spread. Too much milk will make for runny peanut butter.
If peanut butter spread does not spread smoothly, dab apple slices with a paper towel to soak up moisture and then spread peanut butter with a butter knife.
Crush peanuts by chopping them with a knife or crush them up in a Ziplock bag.
Tips for storing and freezing
Store protein apple donuts in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-5 days or until apples begin to brown.
You can freeze these protein apple donuts in the freezer and take them out when you're ready to enjoy.
Protein Snickers Apple Donuts
3-4 apples of choice (I used Fuji)
1 scoop AstroFlav Peanut Butter Cake protein powder
2 TBS natural creamy peanut butter
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
Toppings: chopped peanuts & sprinkle of sea salt
Core apples and slice into 6-7 thin rounds.
In a small bowl, mix protein powder, peanut butter, and almond milk until a smooth spread is formed.
Melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl for 30 second intervals until completely melted.
Spread protein peanut butter evenly among all apple slices. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the slices and immediately sprinkle chopped peanuts over the donut slices so they stick!
Sprinkle with a touch of sea salt and place in freezer for at least 30 minutes.
Take out when ready and enjoy as a snack or healthy dessert!
To make nut free, sub peanut butter with granola butter or seed butter & swap protein for Chocolate or Vanilla IsoMix.
To make sugar free, use sugar-free or stevia sweetened chocolate chips.
