Healthier You: Apple Cider Protein Donuts

Who doesn't love indulging in a tasty apple cider donut during the fall? Good news! Our Apple Cider Protein Donut recipe is no sugar added and has 7 grams of protein per donut! Highlighting Cinna Crunch IsoMix for the perfect fall inspired taste, we are sure you will love this recipe!
Apple Cider Protein Donuts
ALL YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS RECIPE

Apple Cider - To keep low sugar, look for no sugar added apple cider

Whole Wheat Baking Flour - Can sub for all-purpose baking flour, 1:1 GF flour, or blended oat flour

AstroFlav Cinna Crunch Protein Powder - Adds sweetness to this recipe as there are no added sugars in this donut recipe.

AstroFlav Vanilla Protein Powder - To replace some of the flour (and carbs) in this recipe for a slightly lower carb donut.

Almond Milk: Or any other reduced fat milk; best when used at room temperature.

Non-fat Greek Yogurt

Coconut oil: Can sub with melted butter.

TIPS FOR CREATING THESE PROTEIN DONUTS
-
Be careful to not over-mix the batter! Make sure to gently fold the dry mix so avoid a dense consistency.
-
Be sure to grease the donut pan very well to avoid sticking after baking.
-
Make sure your mixture has enough moisture in it. If consistency is too dry, add a bit more almond milk.
-
Let donuts cool slightly before adding cinnamon sugar topping.
-
Keep donuts in an airtight container at room temperature or the fridge.
-
Donuts will last about 5 days in the fridge and 2-3 days on the countertop.
Apple Cider Protein Donuts
INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cup Apple Cider, 360g
-
3/4 cup Whole Wheat Pastry Flour, 90g
-
2/3 cup AstroFlav Cinna Crunch IsoMix, 60g
-
1/4 cup AstroFlav Vanilla IsoMix, 24g
-
1 tsp Cinnamon
-
1 tsp Baking Powder
-
3/4 tsp Baking Soda
-
1/2 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
-
2 TBS Non-fat Plain Greek Yogurt
-
1 TBS Coconut Oil, 14g
-
1 Egg
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
-
1 TBS Melted Coconut Oil, 14g
-
2 TBS Zero Calorie Sugar sweetener (I used Splenda)
-
1/2 tsp Cinnamon


DIRECTIONS:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F and prepare a 12-cavity donut pan with non-stick cooking spray.
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together apple cider, almond milk, Greek yogurt, melted coconut oil, and egg.
-
In another bowl, mix flour, Cinna Crunch IsoMix, Vanilla IsoMix, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda.
-
Add dry mix to wet and gently fold with a large spoon until just combined. Be careful to not over-mix the protein powder.
-
Divide mixture evenly among donut pan cavities, filling about ¾ way up.
-
Bake for 12-14 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donut comes out clean.

Let cool for about 5 minutes.

Whisk together topping ingredients: sugar substitute and cinnamon.

Brush tops of donuts with melted coconut oil and dunk top or entire donut in sugar mixture.

Whole Wheat Baking Flour: All purpose flour, 1:1 GF flour, or blended oat flour

Almond milk: Any milk of choice/preference

Greek Yogurt: Coconut yogurt

Zero Calorie Sugar Replacement: Regular sugar, Stevia, or Splenda will work
