How Much Protein is in a Banana?

Are you a banana lover? If so, this blog post is for you. Keep reading to learn more about the protein content of bananas as well as the other micro and macronutrients that bananas contain.

    Bananas and protein content

The protein content of bananas varies according to the size of the banana. For example, a small banana (classified as 5in long or less) contains around 0.88 grams of protein, whereas a large banana (classified as 9in or longer) contains around 1.66 grams of protein.

While bananas are not necessarily high in protein, they are a healthy snack!

Keep reading to learn all about their micro and macro nutrients.

    Micronutrients

Bananas contain plenty of micronutrients like vitamins and minerals such as:

    • Potassium - 358mg of potassium per 100grams of banana
    • Magnesium - 27mg of magnesium per 100grams of banana
    • Phosphorus - 22mg of phosphorus per 100grams of banana
    • Vitamin C - 8.7mg of vitamin C per 100grams of banana
    • Calcium - 5mg of calcium per 100grams of banana

Although there is not a lot of protein in bananas, they are full of other nutrients and should be incorporated into your diet to assure you are receiving the nutrients you need.

    Macronutrients

Bananas are very low in fat (basically fat free). In fact, there are only .33 grams of fat in every 100 grams of banana, meaning that there is even less fat in a banana then protein.

The carbohydrate count in bananas is much more significant. For every 100 grams of banana, there is 22.84 grams of carbohydrates. 2.6 of these carbohydrates come in the form of fiber while 12.23 grams come in the form of sugar.

Next time you are craving something sweet, reach for a banana instead of a processed food!

    Implement Bananas into Your Diet

If you don't already, try to implement bananas into your diet. One great way to do this is by using our AstroFlav original recipe for a Cinnamon Toast Crunch Smoothie made with frozen bananas. Try it out by following the recipe below!

    Cinnamon Toast Crunch Smoothie

    Yields 2 serving

    Ingredients:
2 cup almond milk or any milk you’d like

    1 frozen banana

1 scoop of the cinna crunch protein powder

    A sprinkle of cinnamon

    Directions:

    1. Add all the ingredients into a blender starting with the milk and blend on high until smooth and desired consistency has been reached.

    2. If this protein shake is too thick, add more almond milk or water, until you reach your preferred consistency!
