One of the most difficult parts of any fitness journey is changing your mindset around food. Cutting certain foods out and incorporating new ones into your diet can be challenging for many people, and that's okay! Here at AstroFlav, we want to help you along your fitness journey by providing you with delicious (and healthy) recipes that will keep you dedicated to your fitness journey while allowing you to enjoy what you eat.
Coconut flour: Add flour for more of a cake-like taste and texture.
AstroFlav Chocolate IsoMix: Chocolate works best for brownie taste, but you can any flavor protein!
Cocoa powder: Unsweetened and sifted to ensure there are no clumps.
Zero-calorie sweetener I used Stevia brown sugar but you can use SF maple syrup or honey to add sweetness.
Almond milk: I used unsweetened almond milk, but coconut or soy are both great.
Egg white: Can use the whole egg, but just the white works well.
Vanilla extract
Chocolate chips
Ramekin single-serve bowl
Don’t overcook:Mug cakes, especially protein powder mug cakes, cook quickly in the microwave, so be mindful not to overcook them. Start by cooking it for a minute and if it is still under-done, microwave in 20-second bursts until done.
Use a microwave-safe mug: Ensure that the mug you use is microwave-safe and that is a little larger than expected. This will prevent any of the cake batter from overflowing.
Mix well: Be very thorough when making the protein mug cake batter to prevent clumps. Protein powder tends to clump together.
Experiment with toppings: Transform your high protein mug cake into something decedant by adding a scoop of protein ice cream, yogurt, or pudding on top.
Preheat the oven to 350F and lightly grease a small ramekin bowl (or oven safe bowl).
Add protein powder, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sweetener to a mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
Add in the egg white, almond milk, and vanilla extract and whisk or stir until well combined. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top!
Add the batter to ramekin or small bowl and place in oven for 15 minutes.
Let cool, top with your favorite ice cream, and enjoy!
Substitutes:
Coconut flour: Almond flour or blended oat flour will all work
Almond milk: Can substitute almond milk with dairy milk, coconut, soy, or oat milk.
Zero calorie sweetener: Swap for sugar free maple syrup.
Chocolate IsoMix: Swap chocolate with any of our tasty IsoMix protein powders!
Egg white: Can use flax egg or 2 tbs apple sauce
